When I was old enough, I started working at veterinary
hospitals, volunteering at wildlife centers, rescue organizations and humane
societies. I went to college and obtained a B.S. in Animal Science. From there,
I started working as an assistant at Angell Animal Medical Center (formerly
Angell Memorial Animal Hospital) in Boston. This is a non-profit teaching
hospital operated by the MSPCA (Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of
Cruelty to Animals). I was in the Avian and Exotics Service under the guidance
and mentorship of avian specialists, Dr. Connie Orcutt, Dr. Tracey Ritzman and
Dr. Stephen Dyer. I gained enough experience to become licensed through the
patience and vast knowledge of my co-workers, Michele Fitzgerald and Mary
Naughton, veterinarians, technicians, assistants, veterinary interns and
students. It was at AAMC that I learned the value of education and the love for
teaching.
Later, I moved on to the University of California at Davis
and began teaching veterinary students in the Small Animal ICU and Nursing
units. It was perfect but I missed working with exotic species and birds. I
decided to pursue a career with a UCDavis Resident in Companion Exotic Animal Medicine, Dr. Jennifer
Graham DVM Dipl. ABVP Avian. We started the Avian and Exotic Animal Medicine
Service at the Veterinary Specialty Center in Lynnwood in August of 2003. VSC
is one of a small percentage of 24-hour emergency, specialty and referral
centers in western Washington. I am no longer employed by VSC as of September 10, 2005 but still maintain my relationship with the staff.
After almost 10 years of working in veterinary medicine,
it’s time to change. I want to be able to incorporate the skills I have
generated over these years into a business that allows me to interact with
animals in their own homes on their own terms. At Fabulous Fur and Feathers, I
am committed to your pet’s well-being. I want to allow them to be entertained,
comforted and cared for in an attentive and compassionate way during the
stressful absence of their families.
